Uranian Moon Titania

The general rule in Moon naming, is that a Planet will be named for a Roman god, and the moon or moons which orbit that Planet would be named for the wives, family, or other counterparts of that god, however, they are given their Greek names.

Rules were made to be broken, though. This is the case with Uranus. The first planet discovered by a Briton (astronomer William Lassell), the moons of Uranus are named for characters from Shakespearian plays. And this is how Titania earned her name. Titania is the queen of the fairies in Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night's Dream”.

Voyager 2 snapped this photo of Titania on it's way out of the Solar System on January 24th, 1986.
