This pillar of dust and gas resembles a massive mountain -- that looks like nothing on Earth. It's located in the Carina Nebula, a stellar nursery, which is about 7,500 light-years away.
Radiation and winds of charged particles from newborn stars are shaping and compressing this pillar, causing new stars to form inside it.
