Supernova 1987A

An impressive image (from Hubble) of the shock wave and trace ring from Supernova 1987a. What you see here is a ring of gas (probably released 20,000 years before the star went nova), as well as a hot ring of material that is left over from the explosion that resulted from the star's death.

Galactic Collision

62 million light-years from here, you could watch one of the largest scale collisions that occurs in our Universe: 2 Galaxies Colliding.

The Antennae galaxies are shown in this image. It's made from 3 of NASA's great Observatories -- the Chandra X-ray Observatory (blue), the Hubble Space Telescope (gold and brown), and the Spitzer Space Telescope (red).

Much could be said about this image, but I think it's best to let the Universe speak for itself on this one.

Mystic Mountain

This pillar of dust and gas resembles a massive mountain -- that looks like nothing on Earth. It's located in the Carina Nebula, a stellar nursery, which is about 7,500 light-years away. Radiation and winds of charged particles from newborn stars are shaping and compressing this pillar, causing new stars to form inside it.
